BBM 2010 March PPM

Written by David Bray on Thursday, 11 March 2010 14:15.

It’s official.  Radio buyers, sellers and programmers in 5 key markets now speak only one language…PPM. As of Fall ’09, they were still bilingual, having “Diary” to fall back on. But the safety net has been pulled. Today’s PPM radio release from BBM completes the thirteen week period covering Nov. 30, 2009 to Feb. 28, 2010. This marks the second 13 week period in the new era of measurement for Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. Diary measurement is now a thing of the past in these markets. Let’s take a look at the numbers.

For this summer and fall only, BBM has been concurrently using both PPM and Diary Methodologies in the markets of Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto. In essence, weaning us off diaries in order to make room for the PPM era. We will have continuous measurement in these markets, with PPM replacing diary numbers as the trading currency for programmers and advertisers. Which method best represents the truth? Well, truth is relative. The fact is both systems offer estimates with a certain margin of error. BBM came to the conclusion that PPM offers the best long term stability.

BBM 2004:s3 - BBM unveils Ottawa's fall radio results

Written by David Bray on Tuesday, 04 January 2005 00:00.

Ottawa was not included in the December release of BBM's Fall ratings. BBM had discovered an error in its enumeration process that resulted in an imbalance of English and French respondents in this market. After analyzing the returns from the Fall survey, BBM staff determined that the Ottawa-Gatineau data was not within publication standards. Supplementary diaries were sent out for the weeks of Nov. 22 and Nov. 29 to remedy the error. These are the results of the final combined survey.
